Finding Internships & Jobs

Despite a wealth of internet job search sites, it is in your best interest to use a combination of resources when looking for internships and jobs. The “in-person” search (e.g., attending
career fairs and company presentations) is equally, if not more important. In this economy, it is simply not enough to post a resume on the internet. Making a personnel connection with an employer is ideal, and can further your candidacy tremendously.

HireSmith

HireSmith is an online job-search database customized for students of the Smith School of Business. It facilitates the recruiting, on-campus interviewing, and resume collections of business students/alums. Though similar to the famous Monster and HotJobs job-search websites, HireSmith contains employers and events specifically geared toward the Smith community.

Careers4Terps E-Recruiting

As the primary online job-search website/database for non-Smith students, Careers4Terps is the main Campus Career Center's equivalent of HireSmith. Smith students can also get a Careers4Terps account, if they choose. However, all business-focused career opportunities will reside in HireSmith.

The OCM understands the importance of internships. Whether you are seeking to boost your current knowledge and experience-base within a specific area, or gain insight into new areas of potential interest, internships are crucial to your development and success in the professional world.

Online Research Guides

• Internships.com is a site dedicated to providing up-to-date information on internship opportunities and companies. Login to HireSmith, click on the "jobs" tab and select  "password-protected on-line research guides" to access username and password information.

• The Virtual Business Information Center (VBIC) is a compilation of electronic and print business resources intended to provide research assistance to the Smith community. VBIC is a very useful tool when conducting company and industry research in preparation for interviews. Visit http://www.vbic.umd.edu. 

• Smith has access to special sections of WetFeet, a career-related educational website and job search engine that is great for doing research on career paths and industries. • Smith has access to special sections of Vault Reports, which provide detailed descriptions of various businesses and are great for interview preparation.
