Fields of Study
Accounting
Overview
The accounting concentration in the
PhD Program is designed to prepare
students for academic careers in the
accounting departments of leading
research institutions. The program
emphasizes the simultaneous development
of students' knowledge of existing
accounting research literature and the
relevant research methodologies.
Students also obtain a strong background
in related fields such as economics,
finance, and statistics. The accounting
faculty is comprised of renowned
scholars in their respective areas of
specialty with strong records of
research publication and teaching.

Specification
Students are required to take four
courses in an area determined jointly
with their advisors.
MBA Core Requirement
Two courses from the MBA core, with
waiver of requirement for students with
an MBA degree, a Bachelor's degree in
Business, or a minor in the core.
Economics Requirement
Two graduate Economics courses required:
ECON 603
Microeconomic Analysis I
ECON 601 Macroeconomic
Analysis I or ECON 604
Microeconomic Analysis II
Research
Paper/Presentation
After three semesters of coursework,
students must write a research paper
that is to be distributed and presented
to the faculty in a research workshop.
This requirement must be met before the
student is allowed to schedule a
dissertation proposal presentation.
