Master of Science in Business: Finance

Overview

The financial crisis on Wall Street and around the world has changed the way we think about finance. More than ever before, financial planning and decision making depend on understanding and using the new ideas and tools required in sophisticated financial management. Students in the Master of Science in Business: Finance program gain leading-edge knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in the complex and networked world of finance.

Students will learn from some of the finest minds in finance today. Smith finance faculty have developed financial models widely used on Wall Street. In addition to appearances in prestigious academic journals, research by Smith finance faculty has also appeared in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal and other international business publications. They have also been actively involved as advisors to large financial institutions, multinational corporations, and government and multi-lateral agencies.

Students learn from a body of knowledge vital for analyzing and directing the financial decisions of an organization. Emphasizing quantitative methods, students gain a fresh understanding and a deep appreciation for the theoretical foundations of finance today.

Classes are held at the Ronald Reagan Building in downtown Washington, D.C., within walking distance of the White House, U.S. Department of Treasury headquarters, and other important Washington landmarks.
