As the world’s economic center shifts from developed to emerging economies, most business leaders realize the importance of China and India. But just being present in these rapidly growing economies is not the same as getting China and India right.

In this edition of Smith Business Close-Up with the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business, Dr. Anil K. Gupta discusses how getting your strategy right for doing business in China and India is vital to ensuring your firm’s very future!

Gupta is the Ralph J. Tyser Professor of Strategy and Organization at the Robert H. Smith School of Business. Along with Smith School alumna Haiyan Wang, Gupta co-authored “Getting China and India Right,” to be released on Feb. 23, 2009. The book outlines strategies that go far beyond the traditional outsourcing and low-cost manufacturing models for companies entering China and India. Gupta is a world-renowned scholar on global strategy, a regular speaker at major conferences, and serves as an adviser and director for corporations in the United States, Europe and Asia.

Smith Business Close-Up is co-produced by the Robert H. Smith School of Business and Maryland Public Television. The television segment focuses on the latest thinking in business management, and features in-depth interviews with Smith School faculty and other members of the school’s community of business leaders.
