SPOTLIGHT: Joyce Medlock
Office Manager, Professional Programs & Services

Joyce Medlock has been a member of the Smith community for the past four years, but on April 27, 2007 she will be saying goodbye to all the friends she has made here as she moves on to the next phase of her life. Medlock started at Smith as the administrative assistant for the office of Professional Programs and Services, and then moved into her current position as operations manager for the office. She has more than enjoyed her time at Smith managing the day-to-day activities for Scott Koerwer, associate dean of professional programs and services, and the departments that he oversees. Each day that Medlock comes into work she never knows what to expect -- she loves the variety of the job and the different arenas in which she is able to participate.

Koerwer has really enjoyed working with Medlock, and says, “Joyce brought a model of professionalism and spirit to the office that was infectious. She enabled everyone around her to perform and she made me better in my role at Smith than I would have been without her.”

Over the past year Medlock and her husband have been growing a church that they started in Charlotte, North Carolina, called Resurrection Life Community Church. May 13 will mark the one-year anniversary for the church, where her husband serves as pastor. Medlock is looking forward to the opportunity to carry out her passion of ministering and teaching people. Influencing, impacting and inspiring people are important to her and this new endeavor will allow her to do all three on a grand scale.

She has treasured all the relationships she has formed here at the Smith School and she says it is going to be hard to say goodbye. She has had the opportunity to work with an excellent team and be a part of so many lives in the Smith and UM Community. The faculty and staff are equally sad to see her go. Scott Koerwer wishes Joyce all the best, saying “We will all miss Joyce and know that she will make her next place of work better just for being there.”

The entire Smith community wishes Joyce and her family the best of luck in the future!
