Gordon
Releases New Managerial Accounting Text Book
In his latest book, MANAGERIAL ACCOUNTING:
Concepts and Empirical Evidence Sixth Edition
(McGraw-Hill, 2005), Larry Gordon provides a concise
and insightful description of the concepts underlying
managerial accounting. Through empirical evidence,
Gordon demonstrates the way real organizations utilize
managerial accounting concepts to enhance their value.
The book considers the relations among managerial
accounting, economics and organization theory and
discusses the role of managerial accounting in an
information-based economy. An executive summary of each
chapter is available in English and Chinese.
EMBA
Starts 4th Cohort
Smith’s fourth Executive MBA (EMBA) cohort began last
month. The 18-month program consists of 17 participants
who represent a broad range of industries including
telecommunications, healthcare, the U.S. Navy, financial
services, life sciences, hospitality, nonprofit, higher
education, and supply chain management. Two of Smith’s
own, Jeff Heebner, managing director of the Office of
Marketing Communications, and Joanne Ferchland-Parella,
assistant dean for external relations, are participants
in the class.
As the Smith EMBA program is designed for
senior-level executives with significant real world
experience, courses focus on leadership development, a
systemic approach to management and team building
skills.
The Smith EMBA was established in January 2003. In an
increasingly competitive market the Smith EMBA has
attracted interest from candidates in the mid-Atlantic
region, throughout the country and around the world. The
Smith program follows an intense track that allows
executives to earn an MBA without interrupting their
careers.
The next Executive MBA cohort is scheduled to start
in June 2005.

Do you know a
business leader who has made a significant and positive
impact on the mid-Atlantic region?

As a world leader in management education and
research, Smith recognizes that leaders in every
industry play a vital role in making our economy and
society productive. To honor these leaders, the Robert

recognize individuals and organizations whose
contributions have truly made a difference.

the awards nomination process. The awards will be
presented in three categories: Business Excellence,
